Safety Glass Ice

Broken safety glass,

all greenish-blue and deep

behind that bus stop

in the sweltering summer heat.

At first, I though it may be ice,

but my senses told me otherwise.

Wishful thinking from a wishful mind,

thinking of cold wet winter ice

when in winter the wishful mind

will consider the summer sun.

It isn’t ice at all

it was only ever

broken safety glass

behind an old bus stop

and the summer afternoon

is filled with the aromas

of hot asphalt and sweat
