The Pokomchí Farmer and Me
The Pokomchí are an indigenous Mayan tribe in Guatemala. When living in Guatemala, my parents hired one of them to plant and tend a garden for us. He is the one who probably first gave me my deep love and respect for the soil and for growing things.
Sitting in that garden,
I was merely three years old.
The Pokomchí farmer,
sitting beside me.
He taught me in his language,
the ways of seeds and soil.
He taught me, three years old,
how, a garden, to grow.
Planted in me a love,
that now is rooted deep.
A love for growing plants,
a love for living soil.
That Pokomchí farmer and me.
Oh my goodness, these photos are amazing! They fit very well with your content. <3
