2015 Seed Catalog is Finally Done!

The 2015 seed catalog is finally done! It is an e-mail catalog, so if you want it, you will have to e-mail me here. I will gladly send it to you, just remember to include in your e-mail that you are wanting a catalog. I will also be selling plants later this spring, if something does not happen to them. It is so hard keeping my greenhouse warm enough in this one degree weather! Mice also enjoy snacks of young plants, sadly though.

 Quixlan Heirloom Seeds

Quixlan Heirloom Seeds is a small seed company located in St. Louis Missouri,  four miles from the arch. All my seeds are either sourced from our backyard or from friends in St. Louis who let me gather Heirloom seeds from their gardens. 
Quixlan Heirloom Seeds started out under the name of Clara's Seed Company. About two years ago I decided the name of my seed company needed to change. So, that night when we were all eating supper, I asked my siblings what they thought would be a good new name for my seed company. It was finally decided that it should be named after one of my new chicks I had (and still have, although, they are now laying hens.) One was named Blackberry and the other was named Quixlan (Quixlan means Hen in a Mayan language, and is pronounced like keesh-LAHN.) The name of Blackberry was soon decided against; everyone said the name of Blackberry Seed Company would sound too much like I only sold blackberry seeds. So it had to be Quixlan Seed Company, but I didn't like the name. My sister finally suggested that since I sold only Heirloom seeds anyway, I could call my seed company Quixlan Heirloom Seeds.
So that is the story of how my seed company came by its name. It has flourished under the name of Quixlan Heirloom Seeds, and it could hardly survive under the name of Clara's Seed Company.

I do not grow GMO (genetically-modified-organism) plants, however, my plants may have cross pollinated with GMO plants I do not test my seeds for GMOs yet, however, I do plan to sometime start testing for GMOs. 

This is my third year as the owner of this seed company and it is still a very small company. Some of you may have received the 2012 seed catalog, and, if you did, you know that it consisted of one page and offered mostly flowers. The 2013 seed catalog was way better in that it offered more vegetables, herbs, melons, and such.  It is even very small this year, however, it is much bigger in comparison. Next year, (2015) I hope to have all of the main plants that this year's seed catalog is missing. If you have any suggestions as to how to improve my seed company, I would like to hear them. Also, you can recommend this seed company to anyone you think might be interested, as I want this seed company to grow.

it is in the Basellaceae Family, making it related to Madeira Vine.

are packed with edible sunflower seeds. This plant is very hardy
 and productive, and is a great choice for children.

Description: A large, bushy plant covered with beautiful,
red-orange sunflower that look like daisies. It attracts butterflies,
bees, hummingbirds and really any other pollinator. This plant

Garlic Toast

4 slices of bread

2 TBS minced fresh garlic

2 TBS butter

Pinch of salt

1.     Using ½ TBS of butter per slice, butter one side of each slice of bread

2.     Sprinkle ½ TBS of minced garlic on each slice of bread, followed by a small pinch of salt

3.     Toast the slices of bread until browned and toasty,  enjoy!
