Glass Gems Corn
This is a very unique and unusual corn. The kernels grow on a small ear, and the kernels are very colorful. I got a lot of seed this previous autumn from a local farmers market, City Greens. They had some slightly bug-eaten ears that they could not sell, so they put them for free. Daddy went there to pick up some local cream and saw the free ears, so he got about seven for me. I had been wanting glass gems corn ever since I saw a picture of it early last summer.
If you want to grow this corn, send me an e-mail. Please include your e-mail address, name, phone number and address. I will send you the seeds free, but please send me at least the seeds from one ear of corn when you get your harvest. Also please take as many precautions as you can to prevent cross-pollination with GMO corn. You can even hand pollinate your corn.
Here is a video showing how, you will want to cover your corn silks with a bag as soon as they begin to show the silks. That way no pollen from GMO corn can reach them.
This corn is a popping corn, so you can make popcorn out of it if you dry it well first. It is not a sweet corn, meaning that the kernels are not very good fresh. This corn also makes good cornmeal for cooking.
I hope you enjoy your corn!
I wanted to sell some seeds this year, but did not get the seed in time to plant and save them, and did not want to sell them without growing them first myself. Since I have so many seeds, I wanted to distribute them, and at the same time get seed to sell next year.
